What to expect on my first visit?
Upon arrival, you will register on our ipad and we will then set you an account up and take your fingerprint (a little like at the gym, brings up your account details and tells us how many minutes you have available and what lotions you have used in the pass). You do have to be 18 or over. So, If you are lucky to look under 21, please bring id with you.
You can pay as you go or purchase a course that saves you £££’s. If you purchase a course, this goes onto your account and is valid for 12 months. You can purchase specially formulated tanning accelerators to prepare your skin for your session.
You will be given disposable goggles called Wink-ease, it is vital you wear them during your tanning session as the UV rays penetrates the skin and it is thin on the eyelids. It is a must to protect your eyes.
We will show you to your tanning room and explain how the sunbed works and its features. You will then have 3 minutes before the bed starts automatically to undress and apply your accelerator (this is plenty of time).
Enjoy your tanning session!
How many minutes?
You are in safe hands! All our staff are fully trained and will advise you depending on your skin type. We normally recommend 8 minutes, which may seem longer than other tanning salons but it is because all our bulbs are all EU 0.3 compliant which reduces the risk of burning and is considered a safer way to tan.
What is the difference between laydown & stand up?
It comes down to personal preference, do you like to stand while you tan in our Sunrise 488 which features 48 dynamic lamps to ensure a consistent tanning performance throughout the session or would you rather to lay down and relax during your session. Our laydown beds have Hybrid Performance with Red light therapy so every fourth bulb is red instead of blue. The Red Light LEDs help intensify your tan whilst improving your complexion as it increases the collagen in your skin that helps with the ageing process. It has facial & shoulder boosters along with customised programme options - sensitive, medium or intense.
Why wear a lotion?
Wearing a lotion ensures the skin is properly hydrated to absorb maximum UV light that developes a tan. Dry skin reflects up to 50% of the UV light. It also replaces depleted moisture that your lose during the tanning process.
Tanning accelerators are specially formulated for indoor tanning and are full of antioxidants, vitamins, natural oils and moisturisers which work to improve the skin condition.. They stimulate the production of Melanin that gives us our tan and thus speeding the process up.
When a lotion is applied, you improve your tanning results by up to 50%.
Can I use the sunbed if I have just had a tattoo?
No, we recommend you do not use sunbeds for at least 6 weeks after having a tattoo. We recommend getting a tanning lotion that protects your tattoo.
How many times a week can I sensibly use a sunbed?
Moderate tanning of 2-3 sessions a week is ok, but ensure you rest the skin for a minimum of 24 hours between each session. We advise not to exceed 60 sessions per year.
If you are on any medication or drugs, please check with your GP or pharmacist before using a sunbed as certain drugs make the skin more sensitive to UV light.
Why can I have a longer session at Dolled Up than in other tanning salons?
All our beds are EU 0.3 Compliant. A 0.3 tanning session delivers the same tanning effect as the mid-day Mediterranean summer sun but without the risk of burning.
0.3W/m2 is the amount of UV exposure that the EU’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP) set as the limit for effective irradiance. This limit was then added to the European and British standards relevant for sunbeds. A sunbed with a UV output above this level is deemed as ‘unsafe’.
What you can expect from a 0.3 tanning session:
- Your tan will be deeper and longer-lasting
- The tanning process is kinder to your skin
- The risk of over-exposure or burning is effectively eliminated
Can I wear a normal lotions on the sunbed?
No, you should use only specific tanning lotions that are specifically made to be used on a tanning bed. Sunbed lotions will help your skin develop an even, dark, golden glow, and keep it nourished when exposed to the UV rays.
In regular lotions, the UV rays are blocked while lotions are used to enhance rays in the tanning bed. The process is entirely different. They also have ingredients that can cause damage to the tanning beds. These ingredients over time build upon the surface of the beds and slowly start to deteriorate it.
We will help you choose the right lotion for your tanning session.
If I buy a course, how long is it valid for?
All sunbed courses are valid for 12 months unless otherwise specified. If we go into lockdown, your course will automatically be extended for the amount of days we are closed.
How old do you have to be to use a sunbed?
You need to be 18 years or over. If you look younger than 25, then bring id as you will be asked for it.
Can I use the sunbed if I am pregnant?
No, pregnant women are not allowed to go on the sunbeds.
I’m going on holiday and want a base tan, what do you recommend?
To get a base tan you will need to come in at least 2-3 weeks prior to your holiday, wedding or special occasion and have 2-3 sessions a week leaving at least 24, ideally 48 hours between sessions.
To get maximum benefit from your sessions we highly reccommend buying a tanning lotion as it helps prepare the skin and also hydrates it so the UV rays do not reflex off. We can help you choose the best lotion for your session.
